International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

As some of you know, I have worked for the past 18 months with the Community Ministry Development Committee of the Diocese, leading their Child Poverty Task Force. The Task Force is passing on the torch to a permanent working group, but there is still much to do to make ourselves aware of what is happening in our own neighbourhood, city and country.

October 17 is the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Here in Canada, over 3 million people live in poverty, particularly lone-parent families, new immigrants, people with disabilities, and Aboriginal children and families.
